Electronic Submission of Documents

Employers are now encouraging, if not requiring, the electronic submission of job application materials using one of the following methods:

Organization Web Site

Many organizations now provide web sites where applicants are instructed to first submit personal information online and then upload a cover letter, resume, and other required documents as part of the application process.

Email

Some organizations will ask candidates to submit application materials via email. If so, be sure to follow the guidelines and preferences of the prospective employer. If no specific guidelines are provided in the job posting, attempt to contact the organization to acquire more explicit application instructions.

Keep in mind that attachments in emails may present a security threat for the recipient, thus candidates should consider placing their documents in Rich Text or PDF format. In addition, while Microsoft Word tends to be the industry standard, some employers may utilize other applications.

For assistance with formatting or converting your documents, contact the Kent State HELP DESK at 330-672-HELP.
