All events are held in the Kent Student Center. Admission is free to all job seekers and registration is not required. If you are driving to campus to attend a fair, keep in mind parking costs and availability.
-
Prepare your resume. If you need assistance, meet with a career counselor in the Career Services Center and review the Quick Career Guides.
-
Register with the Career Services Center via the Experience Job Board. Once registered, you can view the employers attending each fair and also submit your resume to employers prior to the day of the event. Registration is free to all KSU students and alumni.
-
Research the registered organizations before the event. Being knowledgable about the organizations in attendance demonstrates to the recruiter your committment to your job search.
-
Utilize Perfect Interview for practice interviewing. Other resources to prepare for interviews are also available in the Career Resource Library.
-
Professional attire is recommended . Review your wardrobe prior to the event to allow time for dry cleaning or last minute alterations. Whether you are just walking by or hoping to secure an interview, please dress professionally. Make your first impression a positive one!
-
Bring several copies of your resume with you to the event, as well as a notepad and pen. Bring your portfolio if appropriate for your major/career field. Leave your book bag, coat, umbrella, etc., in your car or at the coat racks provided.
-
Prepare a pitch -- a one minute commercial about yourself that will provide the recruiter a summary of your background, achievements, and career interests. Some employers may interview you on the spot, so be ready to articulate your strengths, skills, and goals.
-
Introduce yourself. At the career fair you have to make the first move. Use a strong, firm handshake when introducing yourself. Be assertive without being pushy. Ask about available positions, and as appropriate, leave a resume with the employer.
-
Pick up literature to take home and review.
-
Ask what happens next in the hiring process and what you can do to advance your candidacy. Express appreciation for the employer's time in talking with you.
-
Ask for a business card to follow up with the recruiter within a week. Call or send a resume to the recruiter to request an interview, submit any applications, etc.
