bullet Career Guidance Tools

The following self-assessment tools are administered by the Career Services Center. To learn more, drop-in or contact our office to visit with a career counselor.

Self Directed Search

The Self Directed Search (SDS) is the world's most widely used career interest inventory. The SDS has been translated into 25 different languages and the results have been supported by over 500 research studies. Whether you are looking for a college major, beginning a job search, or thinking about a career change, the SDS will provide valuable information about you and how your individual skills and interests are related to the world of work.

  • Paper/pencil
  • Free of charge
  • Typically takes 20-30 minutes to complete, and 15 minutes to review results
  • No appointment is necessary, just stop in during drop-in counseling to meet with a career counselor.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was developed in 1943 and is the "most widely used personality inventory in history." Although the MBTI has many practical applications, Career Services uses the results to show individuals what career environments would be best suited for them.

  • Paper/pencil
  • Cost: $15.00
  • A pre-scheduled, 90-minute appointment is required to complete the assessment and review the results with our qualified career counselor (Carla Owens).

Card Sorts

The SkillsScan card sorts allow an individual to take a more in-depth look at their skills and values by categorizing them into career clusters.

  • Free of charge
  • Typically takes one hour to complete during a pre-scheduled appointment with a career counselor.
