The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Credit by Exam (CBE) both provide a way for students to demonstrate college-level achievement and/or proficiency in certain academic disciplines through a program of exams. Credit earned by either of these programs will be posted to the student's academic transcript as credit hours, without a grade, and will not be computed into the GPA.
CLEP, sponsored by the College Board, is administered by colleges and universities nationally. Therefore, CLEP credits are portable and will be accepted at most colleges and universities. CBE, on the other hand, is a university sponsored testing program administered by individual academic departments at Kent State University.
While Kent State has approved a large number of courses available for credit through CLEP and CBE, not all Kent State University courses are available for credit through testing.
