ACT (American College Testing) Residual Test

The ACT-Residual measures knowledge taught at the high school level in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. The ACT-Residual is designed for use by universities as a service to prospective students who are unable to test on the national ACT test dates.

  • Only students who are submitting an application for admission to Kent State may take the ACT-Residual.

  • ACT-Residual scores can ONLY be reported to a Kent State office such as Admissions, Regional Campus Admissions, or Pre-College Programs (for the Post Secondary Enrollment Program - PSEOP).

Test Format: Paper & Pencil only. (Note: Your score on each test will be based only on the number of questions you answer correctly during the time allowed for that test. You will NOT be penalized for guessing. It is to your advantage to answer every question even if you must guess.)

Test Dates: Schedule an ACT-Residual test date at our Online Registration Site.

  • NOTE: Kent State does not administer the ACT Residual during the month of November due to the annual renewal of testing materials.

Cost: $50.00 debit/credit card, or electronic check must be paid upon registration. The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • NOTE: Candidates who cancel, no-show, or need to reschedule may do so within 90 days and pay a $25 reschedule fee. Tests rescheduled after 90 days of the original registration date must submit the full $50 registration fee payment.

Photo identification is required. Non-prohibited calculators are allowed during the Math section.

Testing Location: The ACT Residual test is administered in the Career Services Center, 261 Schwartz Center in Kent, Ohio. Students may also contact Stark Campus Testing and Tutoring Services to take the ACT Residual for admission to Kent State.

Repeating Tests: A minimum wait of 60 days is required before retesting. If the 60-day wait period is violated, the retest scores will be cancelled automatically and no refund will be made.
