CLEP - College Level Examination Program
Academic Testing Services administers computerized CLEP exams where students may earn academic credit.
CLEP Registration, Fees, and Location
- Schedule a CLEP test date at our Online Registration Site for CLEP tests adminstered at the Kent Campus in the Career Services Center, 261 Schwartz Center, Kent, Ohio. An email confirmation will be sent within 5-10 minutes of registration.

- The total fee for each test is $97.00. Students are required to submit two separate payments for each test, one payable to KSU for $25.00 and one payable to CLEP for $72.00.
The $25 fee must be paid online at the time of registration. Follow the link in the email confirmation to make the $25 per test payment. This fee is non-refundable, and non-transferable.
The $72 CLEP fee is paid on the day of the exam. Each CLEP test requires an individual fee payment. Fees may be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or check. Do not combine test fees for multiple tests, even if they are taken on the same day.

CLEP Identification Policy
Students must present two forms of personal identification in order to be admitted to a CLEP testing room. The primary form of identification must be a government-issued photo ID card that bears the student's signature. The secondary form of identification must have a photo and/or signature. All funded military candidates must present a current military ID and a second form of government-issued ID.
Acceptable forms of primary identification include:
- Current driver's license
- Current state of federal ID card
- Current passport
- Tribal ID card
- Naturalization card or certificate of citizenship
Acceptable forms of secondary identification include:
- Current employee ID
- Current student ID card
- Credit card
- Social Security card
- Military ID
- Unused ID from the primary choices above
Eligibility Requirements
- Students may not take CLEP for any course:
- in which they are currently enrolled
- in which they have previously enrolled and earned a grade, including:
A-F, AU, IN, IP, N/F, N/R, S, S/F, U, W, Y, Z
- Students with a native language other that English may NOT register for, or receive credit in, cousework on the elementary or intermediate level of that language, or in a closely related language. See the Undergraduate Catalog for addiltional information.
- Students should consult their Undergraduate Catalog and academic advisor regarding the applicability of CLEP credit toward specific degree requirements.
- Students who have already received credit for one level of coursework in a subject in which knowledge is sequential or accumulative may not receive academic credit by means of CLEP for a prior course in that sequence or for a course in a lower sequence.
- Students pursuing a baccalaureate degree may earn up to 30 hours of CLEP, APP (Advanced Placement Program), and CBE (Credit by Exam) combined. Students who wish to take more than 30 hours may petition their college dean for a waiver of this limitation. Students who have earned more than 30 hours of APP and/or CLEP credit before attending Kent State University will be granted the credit, provided such credit meets normal Kent State standards.
- A minimum wait of six months is required before repeating an examination.
